Once upon a time, long ago, faces and hair were covered with a thick layer of powder, and naturalness was out of the question. Fortunately, today the situation is different. Over time, the quality of various powders has significantly improved, from toxin-laden powders to skin-caring powder veils.

Currently, the trend is for beautifully natural skin, and the entire face is not necessarily meant to be fully made up. Instead, products are used locally where coverage or a powder veil is needed.

There are many types of powders, and the chosen product and desired outcome influence the type of brush or other tool selected. If you want to set foundation applied to the entire face as meticulously as possible, it is best to press the powder onto the face with a powder puff. For a lighter powder veil, a powder brush can be used to apply just the right amount of powder either locally or over the entire face.

Both mineral and bronzing powders require their own brushes. Mineral powder is buffed into the skin with a firm, flat-topped brush, while bronzing powder, especially those with glow and shimmer, is applied with a relatively large and round brush to the areas where the sun would naturally hit first, creating a light tan.

A powder brush can also be used to sweep away excess powder from the face with a small wrist movement, preventing a cakey appearance.
