Highlighting and Contouring

With various highlights and contours, or what might now be called "strobing" and "contouring," you can easily reshape the entire face, jawline, or nose, or even optically reduce the forehead. When done correctly, the purpose of highlighting and contouring is to enliven the face and make it appear more three-dimensional.

Both highlighting and contouring products are available in powder and cream forms. If you use a cream product, the best results are achieved with a brush made of synthetic bristles. The product is easy to blend, and the result is natural yet effective. For powder products, you can use brushes made of synthetic bristles as well as natural hair brushes.

When choosing contouring products, it is important to note that products containing shimmer do not work as well for contouring; matte products are a better choice.

The more precise the contouring, the smaller the brush you should choose. A good contour under the cheekbone can be achieved with an angled contour brush, while larger brushes are better suited for applying highlighting products.

Highlighting products can be used, for example, on the brow bone to lift the gaze, above the cheekbone for a light facial lift, and to accentuate the cupid's bow for a perfect lip makeup. Conversely, contouring can be used under the cheekbone to slim the face, under the jawline to diminish a double chin, or to shape the nose with makeup.
